ViVA Performance is proud to introduce the North American market to ENEM Performance Camshafts for many popular Volvo 5-cylinder engines. ENEM custom fabricates each performance camshaft in their machine shop in Sweden, resulting in the highest quality fit and finish possible, while improving performance on built engines.

2000-6000 Hydraulic Standard / Standard 0

X1= Internal reference code

296/105/13.0/4.4:

  • 296 = Duration in crank angle. Measure of how many degrees of crankshaft rotation from when the valve opens until it closes.
  • 105 = Apex angle. Measure of how many degrees between the center of the ridge line measured on the camshaft.
  • 13.0 = Valve lift at set at zero-valve clearance.
  • 4.4 = Intake valve opening at top dead center (TDC), in the overlap position.

RPM CODE= Recommended engine revolutions/minute (RPM) range for the camshaft application. Sometimes two values are given, because the length of the intake or exhaust manifold piping may alter the optimal RPM range for the specified camshaft.

LIFTER = Type of Lifter for which the cam profile is designed.

SPRING = Valve Spring for which the cam profile is designed.

TOP RETAINER = Top retainer for which the cam profile is designed.

VALVE TAPPET CLEARANCE = Valve tappet clearance.

Certain engines have the variable camshaft on either the intake or exhaust side only, and your VIN will help make sure that we supply the correct camshaft to you.

Dual Fixed Camshafts:

Camshafts for the Volvo 850 and S70/V70/C70 (1998) turbo models with 5-cylinder/20 valve engines, featuring a thrust bearing and a washer mounted in the slot behind the front main bearing. The base circle is 32mm and the profiles are for hydraulic lifters. We can also grind camshafts for mechanical lifters (see 35-78-055).

1x Variable, 1x Fixed Camshafts:

Volvo introduced the "RN" engine with a single variable camshaft and a single fixed camshaft. It was first featured on the 2000 x70 models, and continued being used through the P2 S60/V70/S80 models. Camshafts for these newer engines feature another thrust bearing directly on the top. The base circle is 34mm and the camshaft profiles are designed for mechanical tappets, available in different thicknesses.  Naturally Aspirated engines feature a variable camshaft on the intake side, and Turbocharged engines feature a variable camshaft on the exhaust side. If you choose a sharper profile than the Y21, the base circle will be smaller than the standard 34 mm base circle, and there is insufficient material on the cam blank, requiring adjustment of the valve clearance with shims. Note: The cam sealing rings located on the front main bearing are not included with the camshafts.

Dual (2x) Variable Camshafts:

Volvo updated the "RN" engine featuring dual variable camshafts (for example, B5254T4 engines in S60R/V70R models). Dual variable camshafts (one for intake, one for exhaust) of these newer engines feature another thrust bearing directly on the top. The base circle is 34mm and the camshaft profiles are designed for mechanical tappets, available in different thicknesses.  If you choose a sharper profile than the Y21, the base circle will be smaller than the standard 34 mm base circle, and there is insufficient material on the cam blank, requiring adjustment of the valve clearance with shims. Note: The cam sealing rings located on the front main bearing are not included with the camshafts.

In addition, the "RNC" engine also features dual variable camshafts, but differ from the RN camshafts due to a narrower thrust bearing, The RNC camshafts feature only 2 rings on the first journal. and is found on the following vehicles with the 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo engines:
