Filtration, airflow, and heat are key considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.
Our do88 intake system has been developed to provide the turbo with good filtration, an improved airflow path, while maintaining low inlet temperatures. One design challenge for this B58 Intake system is its location next to the exhaust manifold, which rapidly heat soaks this position in the engine bay.
High air intake temperatures are detrimental to engine performance, as the turbo would have to build boost with hot, less dense air. A fully sealed intake system ensures IATs remain low. To prevent hot air from entering the air filter, we designed a heat shield and lid, combined with rubber sealings, so the system feeds the engine with cold air. Our intake system uses the OE fresh air inlet duct to supply fresh air to the filter.
As a replacement for the OE plastic intake pipe, we designed a large 85mm (3,3") mandrel-bent aluminum pipe, expanding to 93mm (3,7") towards the turbo inlet elbow. The 85mm size ensures the correct inner diameter for the MAF sensor, avoiding CEL issues common with competitor kits using 89mm (3,5") pipes. Fitted to our intake pipe is a custom-designed air filter with densely knitted cotton gauze for superior filtration. The filter is washable and reusable for optimum performance and long service life.
The original air filter box and turbo inlet hose minimize noise from the turbo and air induction. In contrast, our intake system removes these noise-reducing elements, allowing you to hear turbo spool and induction sound.
Kit Contents:
- Large 85mm (3,3") custom-designed cotton air filter with densely knitted cotton gauze. Delivered without filter oil; apply cotton filter oil if driving in dusty environments (e.g., BMC Filter Oil, part number "WAFLU250").
- Washable air filter for optimum performance and long service life.
- Recommended cleaning every 10,000 km using a cotton filter cleaning product (e.g., BMC Washing Fluid, part number "WADET500").
- 85mm (3,3") aluminum inlet pipe with correct inner diameter for MAF sensor, preventing CEL issues.
- 0.4 second faster 100-200 km/h time on a Stage 2 car (tested).
