Filtration, airflow, and heat are the key considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.
Our do88 intake system has been developed to provide the turbo with good filtration, improved airflow path, while also maintaining low inlet temperatures. One design challenge for this B58 Gen 2 intake system is its location; it sits next to the exhaust manifold, which rapidly heat-soaks this area of the engine bay.
High intake air temperatures negatively affect engine performance, as the turbo must build boost using hot, less dense air. This is why a fully sealed intake system is the only way to ensure IATs are kept to a minimum.
A fully sealed system presents its own challenge, as it can become restrictive with only one factory air feed. During development, we determined a secondary air feed was required to remove this restriction. The sealed airbox also includes a heat shield to minimize radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To ensure sufficient air volume around the filter, we designed a large 7-inch airbox that also allows space for strut braces.
The stock intake hose is replaced with a smoother, larger carbon tube. It starts at 105 mm (4.1 inches) and tapers seamlessly to fit the turbo inlet. The intake tube is fitted with a large, custom-designed cotton air filter featuring densely knitted cotton gauze. The filter is washable and reusable for long service life and consistent performance.
The system is available in several layouts. It is compatible with the OE turbo inlet as well as do88 CNC-machined turbo inlets. Two inlet versions are available: one for the OE turbo and one for the Pure 800 hybrid turbo. Both feature an 89 mm (3.5-inch) hose connection and a carefully optimized radius to significantly improve airflow. Adding the do88 turbo inlet removes bottlenecks before the turbo and helps prevent surge even at high power levels.
Flow bench testing using a SuperFlow SF1020 shows the intake system alone increases airflow by 15%. When combined with the do88 turbo inlet for the OE turbo, total airflow increases by up to 23%. This combination is strongly recommended.
The factory intake system includes noise-reducing elements such as sound silencers in the intake hose. Our intake system removes these elements, resulting in a more pronounced turbo spool and induction sound.
The kit comes in three versions, depending on turbo application:
- Intake system only; connects to the OE plastic turbo inlet.
- Intake system with CNC-machined do88 turbo inlet designed for OE turbo.
- Intake system with CNC-machined do88 turbo inlet designed for Pure 800 turbocharger.
The do88 turbo inlet does not include a crankcase heating element. The factory connector will be disconnected. A custom tune is recommended to avoid a check engine light.

Washable air filter for long service life. Recommended cleaning interval is every 20,000 km using a cotton air filter cleaning product. For example, BMC washing fluid with part number WADET500.
