Background
The genuine original equipment (OE) intercooler for the Porsche 964 Turbo is no longer in production and is no longer available to purchase. Finding used units in good condition has become increasingly difficult, and the few examples available are often priced very high.
The Porsche 964 Turbo is a rare and iconic sports car, many of which have been rebuilt or modified over the years. Today, owners looking to restore or preserve a more original appearance face challenges—especially since many aftermarket intercoolers feature boxy sheet-metal tanks that detract from the car’s refined, classic engine bay design.
The do88 Solution
To meet these challenges, do88 developed an intercooler with one primary goal: to replicate the original appearance as closely as possible while maintaining high manufacturing quality and reliability.
All fastening points, hose connections, sensor ports, and the upper air guide are positioned exactly as on the OE unit. The intercooler uses the same type of core construction as the original, featuring a 63 mm (2.5") thick Tube & Fin core.
Development was carried out using an intercooler from the highly exotic Porsche 964 Turbo Leichtbau as the reference, ensuring that all shapes, dimensions, and visual details faithfully match the original design.
Installation
This intercooler is designed as a direct-fit replacement for all Porsche 964 Turbo models equipped with the 3.3L or 3.6L engine.
Due to the hand-built nature of these vehicles, minor adjustments to the intercooler mounting brackets may be required to achieve perfect alignment. The OE bracket design allows for such adjustment, which was likely necessary already during original production, as OE intercooler shapes have shown slight variations across vehicles observed during development.
These adjustments are minimal and do not compromise the vehicle’s originality, appearance, or installation integrity.
