Background
Upon launching the 992 generation, Porsche abandoned the naturally aspirated engine for the Carrera models. From now on, all 911s are turbocharged.
There are a few differences between the Carrera and Turbo models, the displacement being the most obvious, but they also share many components – the plenum is one of them. Throughout the entire development of the 992 products, we had unlimited in-house access to a 992. This allowed us to test theories, prototypes, and 3D-prints without delays.
We’d like to think this shows in the finished product – ultimately refined without compromise. We are confident in what we have to offer the market!
Development
Starting with a comprehensive 3D scan of the engine bay to define structural limitations, we quickly realized the need for a Y-joint rather than the OE T-shaped plenum.
From an airflow perspective, the Y-shape distributes air more evenly with less pressure drop. As usual, we chose cast aluminum construction, allowing shapes that CNC machining cannot replicate. For us, function always conquers form – maximum airflow supersedes the bling factor.
The do88 plenum
The plenum is designed with soft, sweeping lines. Radii and angles have been revised and reworked multiple times. The connections are CNC-machined, and the plenum comes with matching silicone hoses for optimal fitment and durability.
The airflow improvement is verified using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and our SuperFlow SF-1020 flow bench. Reducing restrictions for turbocharged air improves throttle response and delivers performance gains across the entire powerband.
