DESCRIPTION
The Girodisc system is a direct replacement for the OE disc. No modifications are necessary. The disc bolts directly to the car and works perfectly with OE calipers. By upgrading your brakes with lightweight, high-performance replacements instead of a big brake kit, your factory bias and ABS efficiency are maintained. The Girodisc front rotors weigh approximately 19.2 lbs vs. 25.6 lbs for the stock units. This reduction in rotational and unsprung weight allows for quicker acceleration and improved suspension response.
The central hat section of the rotor is made from strictly U.S.-sourced 6061-T6 aircraft specification aluminum. The disc is made from Girodisc’s proprietary cast iron, poured and machined in-house in the USA. The rotor features a curved vane design developed in racing to act as a centrifugal pump, forcing cooling air through the disc.
The rotor and hat have a floating mount system utilizing 10 high-strength alloy steel drive pins, manufactured in the USA to Girodisc’s specifications and cadmium plated for long-lasting corrosion resistance. These pins handle braking loads while maintaining axial and radial float. They are secured by class 12.9 cap screws with hardened washers. Anti-noise spring washers on the rotor side allow thermal expansion while eliminating rattle, and the float also allows the rotor to self-center between the pads.
Once the Girodisc system is in place, simply replace the cast iron rotor as needed.
