DESCRIPTION
Upgrade the braking performance of your 97-04 Audi A6/Allroad C5 w/Brembo 18Z 6 Pot Zinc Plated with Girodisc 2-piece Brake Rotors A1-309.
These lightweight two-piece rotors are made specifically for the C5 A6/Allroad with the OEM "18Z" Brembo 6-piston caliper found on the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, and VW Touareg. The only modification required is minor clearancing on the bottom of the upright. Instructions and a video are provided. Other than that, the discs will bolt directly to the car and work perfectly with the "18Z" calipers. The Girodisc front rotors weigh 19.5 lbs, lighter than the stock units. This reduction in rotational and unsprung weight allows for quicker acceleration and improved suspension response.
The central hat section of the rotor is made from strictly U.S. sourced 6061-T6 aircraft specification aluminum. The disc is made from Girodisc’s proprietary cast iron, poured in the USA and machined in-house from start to finish. The rotor utilizes a curved vane design, developed in racing to act as a centrifugal pump to force cooling air through the disc.
The rotor and hat have a floating mount system, which uses 10 high-strength alloy steel drive pins, manufactured by Girodisc in the USA to their specifications and cadmium-plated for long-lasting corrosion resistance. These pins take the load from braking actions while maintaining axial and radial float between the hat and disc. The pins are secured by class 12.9 screws with hardened washers. To prevent noise when cold, the pins are mounted with anti-noise spring washers on the rotor side, allowing the rotor to expand with heat while eliminating rattle. This float also allows the rotor to self-center between the pads.
Once the Girodisc system is in place, simply replace the cast iron rotor when needed.
