Filtration, airflow and heat are the key considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.
Our do88 intake system has been developed to provide the turbo with good filtration, improved airflow path while also maintaining low inlet temperatures. One design challenge for this B58 Gen 2 intake system is location; it is just next to the exhaust manifold, which rapidly heat soaks this position in the engine bay.
High air intake temperatures are terrible for engine performance, as the turbo would have to build boost with hot, less dense air. This is why a fully sealed intake system is the only way to go to ensure IATs are kept to a minimum.
A fully sealed system, however, results in a restriction with only one stock air feed in the bottom of the air filter box. During development, we noticed the system must have a secondary air feed to remove this restriction.
Our sealed airbox also features a heat shield to minimize radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To guarantee enough air volume around the filter, we designed a large 7" airbox, which also leaves space for strut braces.
As a replacement for the stock intake hose, we designed a smoother, larger carbon tube. It starts with a diameter of 105 mm (4.1 inches) and tapers down seamlessly to fit the turbo inlet.
Fitted to the intake tube is a large custom-designed air filter with densely knitted cotton gauze for superior filtration. The filter is washable and reusable for optimum performance and long service life.
The system is available in several layouts. It is compatible with the OE turbo inlet as well as do88 CNC-machined turbo inlets. The turbo inlets are available in two versions, designed for OE turbo or Pure 800 hybrid turbo.
Both versions feature an 89 mm (3.5") hose connection toward the inlet pipe and a carefully calculated, flow-optimized radius that improves airflow. Adding the do88 turbo inlet removes bottlenecks prior to the turbo and helps avoid surge even at high power outputs.
Tests conducted on the SuperFlow SF-1020 flow bench demonstrate the importance of the optional turbo inlet. The intake system alone increases airflow by 15%. Combined with the do88 turbo inlet (for OE turbo), total airflow increases by up to 23%.
The original air filter box and turbo inlet hose are designed to minimize turbo and induction noise. The factory intake hose includes sound silencers. In contrast, the do88 intake system removes these elements, allowing a more audible turbo spool and induction sound.
The kit is available in three versions depending on turbo application:
- Without do88 turbo inlet; connects to the OE plastic turbo inlet.
- With CNC-machined do88 turbo inlet designed for OE turbo.
- With CNC-machined do88 turbo inlet designed for Pure 800 turbocharger.
The do88 turbo inlet does not incorporate a crankcase heating element, meaning the vehicle’s connector will be disconnected. A custom tune is recommended to avoid a check engine light.

Washable air filter for optimum performance and long service life. Recommended cleaning interval is every 20,000 km using cleaning products designed for cotton air filters, such as BMC Washing Fluid WADET500.
