Enthusiasts of the classic Porsche 964 Turbo strive to increase performance while preserving the original aesthetics that define this iconic sports car. The intercooler is one of the most visually prominent components in the engine bay, yet its appearance has often been compromised by aftermarket alternatives.
Many aftermarket intercoolers feature boxy sheet-metal tanks that detract from the refined look of the engine bay. Additionally, a critical component is missing from most aftermarket solutions: the air guide. Mounted on top of the original intercooler, this air guide ensures that incoming air is forced through the core for efficient cooling. Without it, airflow can bypass the core entirely, significantly reducing cooling effectiveness.
The do88 MERA Solution
When developing the MERA version of our intercooler for the Porsche 964 Turbo, do88 focused on retaining the factory appearance while delivering a substantial increase in performance. The result is an intercooler that offers superior cooling efficiency and reduced pressure drop, outperforming both the original unit and most aftermarket alternatives.
At the heart of the MERA intercooler is a Garrett Motorsport Bar & Plate core, chosen for its exceptional thermal efficiency and durability. The thin, densely packed fins promote excellent heat transfer, while the 80 mm core thickness maximizes cooling capacity without altering the original tank design or air guide geometry.
The do88 MERA intercooler is designed to replicate the original intercooler’s mounting points, hose connections, sensor locations, and air guide placement. An intercooler from the highly exotic Porsche 964 Turbo Leichtbau was used as the reference for all shapes and dimensions, ensuring an authentic OE appearance.

Installation
Designed for seamless installation, this intercooler fits all Porsche 964 Turbo models equipped with the 3.3L or 3.6L engine.
Due to the hand-built nature of these vehicles, minor adjustments to intercooler bracket positioning may be required for perfect alignment. The OE brackets allow for this adjustment, which was likely necessary even from the factory, as variations in original intercooler shapes were observed during development.
These adjustments are minimal and do not compromise installation integrity or vehicle originality. Replacing the OE or any aftermarket intercooler with the do88 MERA restores the engine bay’s distinguished appearance while delivering a significant and measurable performance improvement.
