    DESCRIPTION

Upgrade charge-air cooling with the do88 Intercooler. ICM-270-DO88 fits Porsche 911 Turbo (991).

A true performance intercooler upgrade for the Porsche 991 Turbo and Turbo S

This is the most refined product we offer today, MERA, launched in January 2022!

Key advantages of the do88 MERA intercooler:
    - Colder inlet air temperatures under identical conditions: do88 40°C (104°F) vs OEM 57°C (134.6°F), a reduction of 17°C (30.6°F). See diagram below.
    - Increased airflow with reduced backpressure. Airflow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 726 CFM (OEM 607 CFM), a 19% increase (do88 intercoolers + OEM Y-pipe vs OEM intercooler + OEM Y-pipe). See diagram below.
    - 3D freeform-designed cast end tanks.
    - Custom-designed carbon fiber ambient air guides.
    - Supplied with high-quality silicone hoses and all required installation hardware.

MERA means more: more cooling, better airflow, and more performance. Simply, MERA.

At the start of the development process, we conducted extensive market research for the Porsche 991 platform. It became clear that many aftermarket intercoolers on the market were not true upgrades, often performing at the same level as the OEM units, or in some cases even worse. Cutting corners was not an option. Our goal was to create the best possible intercooler solution for the available space in the vehicle.

When this intercooler kit was first launched in 2018, it featured a UK-manufactured tube-and-fin core that offered excellent cooling efficiency, strong airflow, and low weight. This configuration proved itself over years of use, including on multiple 1000 HP builds. In spring 2022, development continued with the next evolution of MERA. After extensive testing, we transitioned to a motorsport-grade bar-and-plate core from Garrett, taking an already highly effective upgrade to the next level.

Overall differences compared to the previous version:

    • 13% higher airflow.
    • New, lighter air duct made from real prepreg carbon fiber.
    • Weight increase of 3.1 kg per intercooler compared to the previous do88 version.

While the core has been updated, the cast end tanks and all accessories remain unchanged. The end tanks are designed to distribute airflow evenly across the entire core, which is critical for minimizing pressure drop and maximizing cooling efficiency.

To accommodate the increased core thickness required for this performance level, a new upper ambient air guide was developed. Designed in a fully 3D-scanned environment, it ensures perfect fitment against the vehicle’s factory air guides and the intercooler itself.

To further eliminate airflow restrictions, the MERA intercooler kit features 70 mm (2 3/4") intercooler connections. New hoses are included for every connection point, all 3D-designed and CFD-tested to ensure maximum airflow. Turbo outlet hoses are manufactured from high-temperature material rated for continuous operation at up to 240°C (464°F).

The carbon air ducts feature integrated seals against the body, forcing all incoming air to pass through the intercooler core rather than escaping around it.

Despite the substantial size and dense all-aluminum construction, the weight increase compared to OEM is relatively modest. Each do88 intercooler weighs 8.5 kg (18.74 lbs), while each OEM 991 intercooler weighs 3.1 kg (6.83 lbs). This increase is more than compensated for by the significant performance gains achieved.

The intercooler kit is available with hoses adapted for either the OEM Y-pipe or the do88 63 mm Y-pipe. The difference lies in the included hoses. Please select the correct version from the dropdown menu above.

Performance testing clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the MERA intercooler. Intake air temperature data was collected using an AIM race logger during five consecutive full-throttle acceleration runs from 50–250 km/h (30–155 mph) in a Stage 1 tuned Porsche 991. Tests were conducted with no cooldown between runs, Sport Plus mode engaged, and air conditioning turned off.

    Test procedure:

Five runs were completed with OEM intercoolers installed. The vehicle was then stopped, the OEM units replaced with do88 intercoolers, followed by a brief shakedown. Five additional runs were then performed under identical conditions. The reduction in inlet air temperature was significant, with a peak delta of 17°C (30.6°F), as shown in the graph below.

Cooling is critical, but airflow is equally important. After extensive development, refinement of the end tank geometry, and careful core selection, the result is an intercooler that delivers superior heat transfer and airflow. Using our in-house SuperFlow SF-1020 Probench, airflow was measured as a complete system, including hoses on both inlet and outlet, for both OEM and do88 intercoolers.

What you see is what you get – MERA performance from do88.
